May Gathering: Pentecost: When the Spirit Came

In our May gathering we had an early celebration of Pentecost. We took part in an interactive story and using musical instruments we learned about when the spirit came on the disciples. They were hiding Other in a room with all the doors and shutters locked. They were afraid. Jesus had given them work to do which was to spread his Kingdom of love upon the earth and they didn’t know how to do it. Jesus told them to wait in Jerusalem until the spirit the helper came who he would send. Then After fifty days of waiting and praying, suddenly there was the sound of wind and what appeared like flames were hovering over the disciples heads. They found a new sense of courage and peace. All the anxiety left. They opened the shutters and the locked doors and went out into the streets of Jerusalem. Peter told the crowds about Jesus’ love and what happened at his death and resurrection. And over 3000 people were baptised that day and came to know the love of God. It was a truly inspiring and heartwarming experience to witness the reenactment of the powerful events of Pentecost during our May gathering. As we gathered together, we immersed ourselves in the story of the disciples, feeling their fear and uncertainty as they waited for the promised Spirit to come. Through the use of musical instruments, we could almost hear the sound of the rushing wind and see the flames hovering over the heads of the disciples. The transformation that took place within them, from fear to courage and peace, was palpable in the room. It was a reminder of the incredible power of faith and the impact of divine intervention. Crafting the vibrant red, orange, and yellow flames with uplifting messages was a creative way to embody the spirit of Pentecost. Writing our prayers on the back of these flames and hanging them on the prayer tree added a personal touch to our worship experience, allowing us to connect with our faith on a deeper level. As we reflected on the story of Pentecost and shared our own prayers and reflections, we were reminded of the importance of spreading love and kindness in the world. Just like the disciples who went out into the streets of Jerusalem to share the message of Jesus’ love, we too have the power to make a positive impact in our communities. The ‘Pentecost Display’ that showcased our colourful flames and prayers served as a visual representation of our collective faith and unity. It was a beautiful reminder of the transformative power of love and the importance of coming together as a community to support and uplift one another.
